The State Tourism Development Agency presented the Concept of Memorialization of Historical Sites in the Kyiv Oblast during the inaugural meeting of the working group. The group included representatives from the Ministry of Community Development, Territories, and Infrastructure of Ukraine, the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the Kyiv Regional State Administration, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, representatives from five territorial communities in Kyiv Oblast, the NGO "Museum of Contemporary Art" (MOCA) and Past/Future/Art.
The presented document serves as a clear roadmap, the result of months of analysis and strategic sessions made possible by the SURGe Project.
The ultimate goal of the Concept is to create a map of locations that will become new outposts of national memory, attracting Ukrainians and foreigners in the future.
As stated by the Chairperson of the State Tourism Development Agency, Mariana Oleskiv, the war has shaped a new social paradigm – places commemorating the memory and heroism of the Ukrainian people.
"Today, more and more such places emerge in Ukraine, and it is the state's duty to support and develop this process, which will become one of the most important sociocultural phenomena for many decades to come. Undoubtedly, the process of creating such routes requires a broader expert circle and prolonged discussions since the topic is sensitive and concerns a large number of Ukrainians. We must care now to ensure that no one ever forgets the high price of Ukrainian freedom and independence," emphasized the head of the State Tourism Development Agency.
